This study enrolled 156 severe COVID-19 patients. Their survival probability was plotted against their Galectin-3 serum levels. Results showed that Galectin-3 was an excellent prognosticator of severe outcomes. The biomarker also correlated with CRP, NLR, D dimer and neutrophil count. When this biomarker was applies with CRP, albumin, & CT pulmonary affection it predicted severe outcomes [AUC .85 (95% CI .79-.91, p,.0001).The recommendation was physicians to use Galectin-3 levels upon admission to allocate resources appropriately.
